About Dr. Berlin

Dr. Alexander Berlin, board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon Dr. Alexander Berlin is Board-Certified in both Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery by the American Board of Dermatology. He has over 18 years of experience in all aspects of dermatologic surgery, including Mohs micrographic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, and laser surgery.

Education and Training

Dr. Alexander L. Berlin graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola University Chicago. He received his medical degree in 2001 from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

He completed his residency training in Dermatology at the University of Illinois in Chicago, followed by additional fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology at Skin Laser and Surgery Specialists of New York and New Jersey. Dr. Berlin has been in private practice since 2007.

Board Certification and Professional Affiliations

Dr. Berlin became Board-Certified in Dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology in 2006.

In 2021, the American Board of Dermatology established a new Board Certification in Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery, and Dr. Berlin is among the first Mohs surgeons to have become Board-Certified in this field.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Academic and Professional Contributions

Dr. Berlin is a peer reviewer for multiple professional journals and was a long-time co-author of a regular journal column titled “Surgical Insights” in Skin and Aging (later The Dermatologist).

He has authored numerous published articles and book chapters and has lectured at national professional conferences.

Dr. Berlin also edited the book “Mohs and Cutaneous Surgery: Maximizing Aesthetic Outcomes” and has co-authored or co-edited additional books, including “Acne and Rosacea: Epidemiology, Diagnosis and Treatment” and “Disorders of Fat and Cellulite: Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment.”
